What is Reiki?
Reiki is a simple but profound system of hands-on healing
that transcends any cultural or religious beliefs. It is also
completely safe with no side effects!
Developed in Japan in the 19th century by Dr Mikao Usui; a
highly educated scholar who studied religion, medicine and
psychology extensively for over 40 years in Japanese, Chinese
and Sanskrit, this complimentary therapy has a powerful effect
on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels and
is also a gentle yet very powerful transformational tool for
personal growth.
Reiki is a Japanese word that literally means; “Universal
Life Force Energy”.
Rei means Universal and ki, or chi, in Chinese, means Life
Force Energy.
This beautiful yet subtle energy moves blockages in your body,
and affects every level including your DNA. The practitioner
is merely a channel, a conduit if you like for the healing
energy.
Reiki and other forms of healing are now being recognised
by the NHS and some (open-minded!!) branches of science, and
healing is now offered in hospitals, hospices and clinics
worldwide. It is used in conjunction with conventional medicine
and can have rather outstanding results. Many large corporations
use it now to de-stress or motivate their staff. Gyms, Spas
and salons, hotels, dentists are also now offering Reiki to
their clients. I also genuinely believe that one day, Reiki
will be taught in schools and to employees in every industry.
People confuse the words healing and curing. Curing means
to totally eradicate an illness, but healing can occur on
all the levels mentioned above.
Animals benefit immensely from Reiki too. I absolutely adore
animals, so this is a real joy for me. Children, like animals
have no pre-conceived ideas or fear about healing, so are
truly open to all the benefits of Reiki.
Important legislation regarding the treatment of animals
It is essential that you obtain veterinary treatment for
a sick or dying animal. The paragraph below sets out the relevant
legislation with regard to treating animals. The Veterinary
Surgery Act of 1966 prohibits anyone, other than a qualified
veterinary surgeon from treating animals, including diagnosis
of ailments and giving advice on such diagnosis. However
the healing of animals by contact healing, by the laying of
hands or distant healing is legal. The Protection
of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs
treatment from a veterinary surgeon the owner must obtain
this. To give emergency First Aid to animals for the purpose
of saving life or relieving pain is permissible under the
Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 Schedule 3 (taken from the UK
Reiki Federation Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- March 2002)
